Research Interests:

Applications of Nano-materials to Medical Diagnosis and Therapeutics
Cancer detection using magnetic nanomaterials and MRI Magnetic nanomaterials show different magnetism with their sizes and shapes. Elucidation of nanoscale magnetism and their utilization to biomedical cancer detection system via Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) are under proceeding. Fabrication of Nanomaterials - QDs, Semiconductors, Magnets, Metals, & Alloys Size & shape controled synthesis of semiconductor & Magneticnanocrystals Quantum Dots (QDs) or Semiconductor nanocrystals show different electric, magnetic and optical properties with their size and shape.With chemically well controlled synthetic method, the size and shape of semiconductor nanocrystals can be modified, and the researches on their physical properties proceed.

Magnetic Nanoparticles as Platform Materials for Highly Sensitive Diagnostics and Therapeutics
The development of next generation nanomaterials for the detection of biological targets is of importance. Among many types of nanoparticles, magnetic nanoparticles possess interesting nanoscale phenomena including superparamagnetism, tunable coercivity and magnetic moment. In this talk, I will discuss our recent studies on the chemical design of ultra-sensitive nanoparticle MRI and multi-modal probes. Nanoscale magnetism effects of size, dopant, and magnetocrystallity on the MR signal enhancements are to be described. Magnetism optimized nanoparticles are very useful as key platform materials for high performance multi-modal imaging (e.g. MRI-optical, MRI-PET), drug and gene delivery, cell trafficking, and bio-sensing and actuations.
